Our high technologically customers are moving us from doing final product inspections to supplier quality engineering. This year our customers’ focus is on components reliability and durability. Smartphone technology incorporates many embedded components and bonded assemblies.

Your key supplier is basically an assembler of the final product. The incoming components are either from a vertically integrated manufacturing subsidiary or from an external source. Whatever the component sources, the quality problem, as a seller of a mass produced product, to your end users is a bigger cost problem than stopping the problem at the source of production.

Our best customers have moved AMREP from China supplier final product inspection, to production processes inspection to China components suppliers inspection. Sony, before selling to its Tijuana Mexican factory, uses AMREP China SQEs to find a supplier quality solution to its production downtime. The choice was sorting and replacing of components by the suppliers, or stopping the problem at the source. Our customers make a wise choice of reducing production cost and risk prevention by engaging AMREP China SQEs with their China component suppliers.

AMREP China is now doing pre-cap visual inspection to identify production deficiencies, embedded component quality issues, chemical applications and soldering related issues on key components on smartphone products.

Most supplier problem resolutions do not start at the production stage. Many problems begin from working with suppliers’ whose managers or owners think they have special relationships with their customers’ management. Many production problems start when suppliers refuse to co-operate with its customers’ managers whom they do not know, or customer appointed quality and technical experts to implement corrective actions.

AMREP had a biomedical device customer which had the device plastic components manufactured in Singapore. These components were then sent to another contract manufacturer for the final assembly of the device. Most components were always rejected for assembly. A customer material expert was stationed in Singapore to resolve quality problems relating to tooling and material usage. Attempted problem resolution always ended up in disagreements. AMREP plastic and tooling specialist added-in by the customer to track problems could never get detailed information on problems. Final assembly in Thailand was always delayed because of components issue.

Supplier problems resolution can never be achieved when supplier management bypass a customer’s quality representative and talk directly to his boss because of an established “special relationship” with the customer’s top management.

In our biomedical device customer case, our AMREP CEO and Chairman was brutally frank to our customers’ top management when he said, “ When a supplier is reluctant to cooperate and do not understand the meaning of customer’s money and customer satisfaction, it is time to look for another supplier in double quick time”.

Customer improved supplier aerospace composite materials manufacturing by using AMREP QC material characteristics specialists on key processes monitoring of KC and KPP variations.

Flat Panel Display inspection devices manufacturing require tight quality control. Most components are outsourced and manufactured with the final assembly by the primary manufacturer in the home country.

AMREP ATC has set in customers meetings in which defective component quality originates at the remote source of manufacture.

Finding, solving and eliminating supplier component quality at the source is the business basis for AMREP Supplier Management Services existence. Solving quality problems on FPD product is complicated and demanding on technical skills and specialized product knowledge. FPD components range from sensitive optical cameras, lenses and air carriages with tight tolerances in a working system used by FPD makers to measure pixels deficiencies. AMREP ATC has acquired skills from working with its first FPD customer, Photon Dynamics Inc, USA, years ago from quality audits, source inspection to problems resolution. Photon Dynamics has now been acquired by Orbotech.
AMREP continues to provide supplier management services to other FPD manufacturers.
For more information on our work on FPD, contact Isabel @ 1 954 4430046 or 1-800-692-8539(Toll-Free), or email supplyquality@amrepinspect.com.

Your Employees, the Supplier Team, or the AMREP ATC Team?

Managing your outsourcing begins with a good management of the people you hired to do the job in China.

You cannot manage your supplier’s quality team because they are not your employees. Employees work according to the needs of the factory boss. Not yours.

Managing your own quality team in China or in Mexico means long distance management. The further away the employees, the more difficult it is to get the best performance out of them, their skills, or even to train them.

Some customers have given up having their own China teams or offices, simply because there are always local management problems, staff problems, culture and management styles and changing laws. Or they added the AMREP Team as an alternative solution to managing outsourcing.

One Canadian company with over 30 staff in China and Hong Kong could not manage or trust its own politicking local staff. So they handed the staff and work over to AMREP ATC. Our mission was to dismantle the China and Hong Kong office, throw away the worst performers, take over supplier management work and let AMREP be its key supplier management team. It’s the same as asking Accenture to take over an IT department of a company.

Another major electronics company decided that its China based employees needed to do better. So it signed up AMREP as an alternative team to create a competitive challenge to its own employees. The employees lost. AMREP won with a signed contract with the customer.

The AMREP Team is driven by Customer Satisfaction. Not customer employee benefits. The Success of the AMREP Team determines the success of the AMREP Corporation.

For more information on how companies use AMREP and why they chose AMREP over their own employees, contact Isabel at 1-954-443-0046 or 1-800-692-8539(Toll-Free), or email: supplyquality@amrepinspect.com.

It is most unusual when a customer find its own inspection teams unreliable in China and used AMREP to provide additional technical quality personnel with stronger experience in supplier control and management.

Recently, AMREP Supplier Management Services was instructed to take over Customer A’s China and Hong Kong procurement and quality teams operations. Customer A had found it difficult to control and eliminate internal conflicts of interests of their two operations. Remote management of their own employees’ performance in enforcing supplier quality compliance and delivery conformance was difficult resulting increasing rate of product failures.
Based on reliable US references and work experiences in electronic toys quality control and supplier management, AMREP was selected and instructed to become the customer’s primary supplier and supply management center in China.

Our mandated mission objectives were:

Begin a quiet smooth transition to integrate the customer’s current quality and procurement teams’ work.

Incorporate the best members of the teams and off-load the non-performing members.

Review current supplier performances in quality deficiencies and delivery and create new performance benchmarks.

Eliminate poor performing suppliers and upgrade the customer value of good performing suppliers, through a supplier number reduction process.

Put into place immediately AMREP’s best quality and technical staff to work with critical suppliers in resolving manufacturing and cost of poor quality issues.
